“Vintage flowers” was the name of the collection that this beautiful rose fabric was from. The two main fabrics were from a donation of high end fabric samples from my friend, Cheryl. They were over $50 per yard and so nice to work with. The Lime green is an embossed, cotton blend from Belgium and the floral is 100% cotton from the UK.

The flap has rounded corners and is trimmed with a perfect piece of ribbon Linda had in her stash and the eyelet is from a skirt Linda made years ago.

The front has the two fabrics with two pockets trimmed with polka dot ribbon and eyelet. For the cell pocket on the side I had a cute ribbon designed fabric piece that I just had to use for some added interest and I trimmed it with pink braid and two other contrasting fabrics.

The back has two large pockets trimmed with striped ribbon, eyelet and a matching flower button.

I had fun using different fabric pieces and trims to make the 38½" strap.

The lining is made from a pink Ralph Lauren cotton sheet and the lime green fabric. I made a double pocket of a beautiful fabric sample of green and off-white silk, which I trimmed with pink fabric and polka dot ribbon and secured with a fancy green button.

The bag measures 11" x 11¾" x 3". It is interlined with iron-on fabric to make it sturdy.

Apples and Pumpkins

Click on any picture for a larger view.

This fall-colored bag reminded me of the book Apples and Pumpkins, even though there are pears and flowers instead of pumpkins. The rich pumpkin color mixed with yellows, tans and light & dark denim is a wonderfully warm-colored bag for this time of year.

The little focal denim piece on the flap has embroidered corduroy flowers and fruit from a teeny pair of Gymboree jeans. It is surrounded by a vintage quilt piece, orange swirly velvet, pumpkin bread corduroy, yellow and white striped denim, a polished cotton decorator stripe and is bordered at the bottom by rich, dark denim.

Once again, the back of the bag is just as, if not more than, fancy as the front. There are three pockets across the strip of fabrics including the front panel of checked, tan cotton pants with a usable pocket. Behind the waistband is a large pocket. And the orange velvet lines the top edge of the left pocket behind another vintage quilt piece from a Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern.

The straps tie all the fabrics and colors together, including of course, the antique quilt design, both denim shades and the rich designer fabric that is in several shades of orange. The straps are adjustable and are currently tied at 38 inches.

The under side of the flap and the entire interior is a chartreuse patterned fabric that feels like chenille. We all know how much I love chenille. :o) There is a large denim pocket inside with orange rickrack and a yellow button for trim.

This bag is slightly taller than the regular BFZ messenger bags. I was experimenting with a no-seam bottom and the bag ended up being 15 1/2" long, 14" tall and just shy of 4" wide. Plenty of movie popcorn could hide in this gem. This would make a lovely Thanksgiving gift.

Homesteads and Heritages

Homesteads and Heritages is a unique bag made from a vintage colonial print I found at an antique store.

The flap has different fabric pieces sewn together making a quilt-like look.

Under the flap is a beautiful embroidered piece from a tablecloth purchased at the same antique store. My friend Cheryl gave me the rusty orange, and green and white check fabric that I needed to compliment the vintage pieces.

The front has a large pocket divided in three, made from the barn on the fabric- just perfect.

I just had to use the majestic eagle and so he is flying at the top of the back of the bag.

Below are two pockets, the cell pocket had a perfect spot for a fancy rhinestone button.

The lining has 3 pockets across it and one small one with a cute button for extra decoration.

All the piecing was time consuming, but worth the effort for a fun creation.
