I found nine different black and white fabrics in my stash which all fit together to make this bold, Man in White bag. The main fabric is an embroidered linen-like material that has a nice body and texture. I used it on the flap, the under flap, the strap, the cell and back pockets. The flap has curved corners edged in black cording with sample pieces across the bottom featuring an embroidered flower and trimmed with black and white braid.

The front of the bag is striped and has a large double pocket. I used a vintage hand embroidered and crocheted pillow case piece for a wonderful “change of pace” decorating the pocket.

The stripes are horizontal on the back with a nice size pocket trimmed with braid.

Inside I used black and white polka dot, animal print, striped and floral materials. The pocket is divided in three with a polka dot ribbon trim.

The black material used throughout the bag is a medium weight fabric with a wavy design. I used fusible lining on most pieces to make a sturdy bag.

The strap, top stitched in white, is one piece measuring 41 inches and the bag is approximately 10 ½ x 12 ¾.

I can't stop making these Reduce-Reuse-Recycle bags! This one is quite The Tangled Web of colours and patterns. The purples are really very purple and the pinks are very pink and the turquoise is very turquoise. The inside pictures show the colour the best.

And the purple corduroy is tres yummy and fuzzy.

This our standard size messenger bag. It features two back pockets, one side pocket, and two inside pockets.

The straps are 49" at their longest, but can be shortened up by tying the knot differently (as I show in the second picture.

Denim (flap and exterior pockets) from my original stash

Purple Corduroy (exterior bag) from Nancy B

Floral Prints (decorations and inside pocket) from Nancy B, Susan F, and a thrift store

Dark Blue Cotton Blend (straps) from my original stash

Turquoise Cotton Blend (lining for straps, flap, and body) from ... oh, give me a break - I remembered all the others. :)

It Is Well With My Soul

Hey All! Gosh it feels good to be well again. Thank you all for your patience. If I haven't answered emails or mailed packages or something ... please email me because I got a bit behind with being so under the weather, but I'm alive again (and hopefully immune to that new piggy flu) and I don't mind being double-reminded about things I've missed.

This week's Bag Biddies are:
  • With Endless Sight -- Heather in Michigan -- $35
  • Words from a Fearless Heart -- J.A. -- $31
  • Mom ... and loving it! -- A.C. -- $30
Please email BagsforZaza@gmail.com within 1 week to arrange payment and postage/pickup.

In case you hadn't noticed, I think I've gone back to the old format, more or less. It gives y'all a bit more time to bid. And I have two new messenger bags ready to go up tomorrow morning. Feedback on what we're doing is always welcome.

Thanks so much for your support. And thank you again LaVonna for your extra special contribution! All proceeds from this fundraiser go towards Zaza's adoption.

With Endless Sight is a combination of Springtime colors that attract your eye with the first glance. This is a colorful bag of pinks, yellows, greens, oranges and off white. It is the standard messenger bag size with adjustable straps.

The front flap has a delicious collections of textiles to meet the fancy of the most persnickety lady: chenille checked green fabric, hot pink satin ribbon, a thick textured cotton with embroidered lines of stitches and a flashy silk daisy with a prominent lime green button.

The cell pocket is adorned with big, fat pink ric-rac and my razor phone fits in it perfectly.

There are four large pockets on the outside of the bag, two on the back and two under the flap. The pink material on the back has little off-white dots and a satiny sheen. The pockets are trimmed with an orange satin ribbon with white flowers dancing along it, as well as a felt and button flower accent. The pockets under the flap have a small hot pink and white gingham ribbon and a bright yellow button topping off the trim.

On the entire inside, you will have an Endless Sight of yellow and off-white striped denim. This is sturdy fabric that holds it shape quite nicely. There are also two pockets on the inside for the essentials, girls (chocolate, lipstick and mints).

The straps, sides and bottom of the bag are made of a brocade orange fabric that is rich in nubby texture. It is thickly structured and has a slight variation in its color.

I'm sorry it wasn't ready for Easter.... but it will do for Summer as well as Spring. Happy bidding!

Words from a Fearless Heart

Words From A Fearless Heart is a bag with attitude. The book is a collection of wit, wisdom and whimsy from Laura Ingalls Wilder.... and the bag sort of reminds me of one she may have sported (minus the fringe trim). Here is a luscious burgundy purse with pizazz and style all wrapped into one. The fabrics, inside and out, are upholstery velvets, so the bag is thick and durable. I think the fabrics are from Donna B. Thank you!

The outside pocket is trimmed with some flashy braid from Darla adorned with flowers and beads. It has exciting fringe on the top and bottom that lends to the gypsy look (or shabby? or chic?) I couldn't decide if I should put a button on the front pocket or not. So it will be an option for the highest bidder. I do have a cool square button that matches the beads on the trim. So you decide.

Inside is mostly burgundy velvet with the exception of the pockets being a paisley coordinating light-weight velvet.

The purse has an oval bottom so there is lots of storage room inside. The bottom measures 6.25" across and 13" long. The bag itself stands 12" tall. The straps are 16" long, perfect for over your arm.... and over your shoulder only if you have skinnier arms than I do.

I planned to put a magnetic clasp inside to hold it shut, but realized I forgot to put it in, after I took the pictures. So it WILL have a silver metal, magnetic clasp.... eventually.

Mom ... and loving it! is the perfect name for this gorgeous bag because it was made by a frequent BFZ visitor, LaVonna, who IS a Mom... and loves it.

I love the design of this bag! The front and back of the bag are identical, button and all. The black squares are a fuzzy corduroy and the patterned turquoise fabric is a rayon or polyester. (I'm guessing.) The sides, bottom and strap are made of faux leather, or pleather, giving the bag some shape and firmness. The insides are made of a mystery material that feels like faux suede. The front and back buttons are gold with inlaid black enamel in a swirl design that matches the swirls on the turquoise fabric. So cute!

There are two pockets inside of the cute turquoise fabric. Also inside at the top is a bright turquoise glittery button and a little elastic loop to hold the bag shut. The top of the front and back are cinched in with wide elastic giving the bag a slight ruffle along the top edge.

The bag measures 14" across, 12" tall and 3" wide. The strap is 22" long and stays on your shoulder very nicely because it is so wide.

Thank you, LaVonna, for your talent and time and turquoise bag. It is darling and Zaza's Mama thanks you, my friend.

Baggy Peeps

So sorry to all my baggy peeps out there. I've been SO sick - just awful. I haven't hardly been out of bed for a week, seriously. I haven't watched so much TV in the last year as I've watched in the last few days.

Linda has several lovely bag creations ready to post, but I just haven't been able to muster the energy. So, I'm going to post some time tomorrow and we'll be back in business.

Thank you all for your patience and well wishes.

Fun fun fun!

OK - Wacky Wednesday was FUN! There's still a pair of Cookies and Cream Glovies left (ladies large) ... and I think we'll be doing this again. Maybe not on a Wednesday, it could be a Free-for-all Friday. Or at Totally-Awesome Tuesday. We'll just have to see.

What's so NEATO about the crocheted items is that I can do it anywhere. I carpool with three groovy guys and our drive is about 50 minutes each way. They prefer that I don't crochet when I'm driving, but they're absolutely fine with me going all loopy when someone else is at the wheel!

Question #1: What colours of glovies are you interested in? (I have SO much yarn - thank you Cousin Dawn and Nancy B.)

Question #2: What colours of totes or messenger are you interest in? (Options here are more limited, but I thought it would still be polite to ask)

Question #3: How does one suffer from a cold for 2 1/2 weeks, enjoy 1 1/2 days of wellness and then get another virus that comes with a horrible sore throat and fever. How is that fair? You don't have to answer this.

Thank you all! Now answer my questions and then go read up on the adoption news over at Zaza's Mama's site.

What are Lovely Spring Glovies? They are cute little crocheted fingerless gloves ... "glovelettes" if you will. They provide a little bit of extra warmth, without the full coverage of mittens or gloves. They can also be a fashion statement and look great with long or short sleeves. We've recently received two HUGE donations of yarn, so we thought we'd try something new. I've been wearing my glovies for a couple years now and they made a brief appearance on BFZ in a post last November.
